What if I have a home school diploma? Will that work in lieu of a high school diploma?
Yes, as long as the course is equivalent to graduation at the 12th grade level. You can include this along with the EMT Program Application Packet. If I already have college credits or an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral Degree, do I still need to take the assessment examination?
No, you are NOT required to take the assessment examination, i.e. (EMSU Reading Assessment, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, or ASSET), if you have at least 2 years of full-time study or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher or an Associates Degree or higher. You may submit unofficial transcripts prior to the start of class to satisfy this requirement, provided that official transcripts are sent as proof within 30 days after the class start date. I have a felony on my record or a serious misdemeanor, will this prevent me from registering for the program?
No, having a criminal record will not bar you from entry into the program. No one can be denied access to education, however, it may prevent you from completing the requirements of the program such as obtaining a Background Check and also from becoming certified as an EMT. Also, The NREMT may deny certification or take other appropriate actions in regards to applicants for certification or recertification when a felony conviction has occurred. Does your course meet Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) requirements for initial EMT certification?
Yes, we are authorized by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) to conduct Texas EMT Courses. Our certificate training number is: 600179.

Does your course meet National Registry of EMT (NREMT) requirements for initial EMT certification?
Yes, as an EMS Training Program, approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) to conduct EMT Classes, we meet NREMT requirements for certification. The course requires a score of 80% or better on the written and practical examinations. Once you have successfully completed the EMT class and after successfully passing the written and practical examination in the course, you will be permitted to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT Computer Based Examination. I’m from out of state or hold certification in a state other than Texas. How do I become certified to practice as an EMT in Texas or to recertify my NREMT?
The state of Texas requires that EMTs certified in another state hold current NREMT certification and take an Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) approved EMT Refresher course in order to practice as an EMT in Texas. How do I become certified as an EMT? Can you explain the general process involved in becoming an EMT?
In order to become certified as an EMT, you must first take a state approved EMT course. Our EMT course is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS). This course can range in hours from 140-220. Once you have successfully completed EMT class and after successfully passing the written and practical examination, you will be permitted to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT Computer Based Examination. I’m from out of state or planning on leaving the state and/or would like to work in a state other than Texas. Can I become certified as an EMT through your program and work in another state?
The answer generally is yes, however, there are additional steps involved in the process. In order to become certified as an EMT, you must first take a state approved EMT course. Our EMT course is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS). Once you have successfully completed EMT class and after successfully passing the written and practical examination, you will be permitted to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT Computer Based Examination. Once you have obtained NREMT certification, you will need to apply for initial certification in Texas, by clicking here. After you have become both Nationally (NREMT) and Texas EMT certified, you can use the NREMT Reciprocity Map to determine which state agency to contact for further information regarding the certification process in that state. Again, generally speaking, NREMT and Texas state certification will provide a basis for reciprocity, however, it is up to the individual candidate to verify. Course Questions:
How long is the EMT course?
The EMS Universal Education EMT Course consists of a total of 180 hours. Specifically, this is a total of 148 hours of didactic instruction, 4 hours of practical examination assistance, 16 hours of clinical rotations and 12 hours of vehicular rotations (40 hours externship total). Course hours are subject to change with appropriate notification to the student/applicant. This course follows National EMS Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician, the National EMS Education Standards as well as meet Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) education standards.

What if I fail the final exam or other exam in the course?
The score to pass and receive your validation EMT certificate is 80% on the final examination. You are permitted to take the final exam a maximum of 3 times prior to being required to take the course all over again. If you must repeat the course, we can offer you a discounted rate. Ask your instructor for details. Regarding other examinations, students who do not achieve a grade of at least 80% on an examination (with the exception of the final examination) will be required to remediate. This percentage requirement may be increased at the discretion of the Program Director or designee with reasonable notice to the student.

Students who score lower than the minimum of 80% on 3 examinations may be dismissed from the program and will not receive a refund of any course fees.

Grading requirements are subject to change by the Program Director or designee at any time upon reasonable notice to the student. Reasonable notice includes, but is not limited to the initial course syllabus provided to the student on the first day of class.

How do I get a receipt for my payment?
